
Matt Pinizzotto began his music career as a high school student.
His Interest in learning how to play rock guitar changed after
hearing a recording of Charlie Parker lent to him by a local
guitar instructor. After High school Mat''s family relocated
to Chicago were his interest in Jazz grew and he started to
pursue music as a Career. Matt lists Grant Green, Wes Montgomery
and George Benson as his biggest influences; but also draws
inspiration from music of all styles.
Matt studied for two years at Roosevelt University and two
years at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he received
his Bachelors in Music. Matt has studied with many different
players such as Mick Goodrick, Bobby Broom,George Garzone and
John Thomas. After Moving back to Chicago , Matt continued
his education at DePaul University where he received a graduate
degree in Jazz Composition.
Matt has performed with a number of different groups at a
variety of events, from playing with DePaul's Big Band at the
Jazz Times Jazz Festival at Sea, aboard the Queen Elizabeth
II and at The Jazz Showcase to Performing at to Local Clubs
Like the Green Mill and Andy's with some of Chicago 's most
notable players. He has also shared the stage with distinguished
musicians such as: James Moody, David "Fathead" Newman, Louie
Bellson and Steve Turre.
Matt is currently leading the Matt Pinizzotto Organ Trio, an
approachable and yet intense mix of straight ahead Jazz, Funk
and Blues. Matt's approach to music — as a bandleader and guitarist
— is for the music to groove.
"It has to feel good — and above
all swing."
Matt distances himself from flashy cliches, and
concentrates on adding his own spin and interpretation to the
time-honored tradition of jazz guitar.
